Martha has an excellent taste in fashion and is usually seen wearing clothes well in line with what's currently trendy. But as stylish as she is, Martha tries to maintain a somewhat practical and slightly professional appearance. An outfit she's quite fond of is her red leather jacket, a simple tank top, blue jeans, and boots. She also has a tattoo of a bird in flight on her upper right arm. And on her left hand Martha wears an engagement ring.
Martha is good at keeping a level head in a crisis situation, a trait that is useful for both a doctor and a time/space traveller. Though she might get a little frazzled, it takes a lot of stress to really make Martha crack. Intelligent and observant, Martha is very open minded after all the alien stuff she's seen, which also stems from her extremely curious nature. She's also quite intuitive when it comes to people, and she doesn't appreciate it when people hide things from her. As one would suspect from her profession, Martha is a very caring person. Yes, she's a doctor because she finds the human body fascinating, but she's also a doctor because she cares about people. She tends to be very conscious of how people are feeling and tries to respect those feelings, even when it means keeping her opinions to herself. This can sometimes be tasking, as Martha can be rather opinionated. Open and honest, Martha expects the same in return. She wants people to give it to her straight and not beat around the bush when she asks a question. And though she doesn't wave her accomplishments around, Martha does not like being overlooked or ignored. She expects to be respected for what she can do and she expects to be treated as an equal. Adventurous but practical, Martha is able to take all sorts of situations in stride.
weaknesses: Martha has a tendency to invest herself very deeply in whatever she does. She gets attached to people rather quickly. She's also still recovering from a very hellish year, so she tends to overreact to things at times. She usually catches herself, but it's hard to break habits that kept you alive for a year. On occasion she'll still have nightmares.
As a child, Martha was very curious, about absolutely everything. Her family liked to joke that her favourite word always has been always will be "why." She was fascinated with how the human body worked and how everything else around her worked, and she wanted to know how and why it worked. Once she even asked her father how Father Christmas visited every house in a night and how he made his reindeer fly. From a very young age, Martha knew she wanted to be a doctor. When she was little she'd play doctor with her stuffed animals, and as she grew older she became quite proficient at patching up her brother Leo's cuts and scrapes from when he'd get into fights after school. At the age of 15 she could name all the bones in the human hand. Though known as a bit of a nerd at school, Martha didn't mind, and neither did her friends. Though quite social, Martha focused mostly on her studies throughout most of secondary school. After sitting her A-Levels, and doing quite well on them, Martha was accepted into St. George's, University of London. As well as starting university at 18, Martha also moved into her own apartment. It certainly made studying a little easier as things were really starting to get a bit heated at home. Francine was starting to get suspicious of where Clive was disappearing off to and suspected an affair. So Francine was less than pleased when Clive simply walked out half-way through Martha's first year of university. Within a year they'd divorced and Clive was living with his girlfriend Annalise. After that, Francine suddenly became a very busy business woman. Still, though she'd moved out, it didn't mean Martha didn't hear from them regularly. Thanks to the telephone she heard from them, daily. Martha never really understood what her father saw in Annalise (other than perhaps her large breasts). Family relations became a bit odd after the divorce, with Martha and her siblings often playing messenger between their parents. Nevertheless, Martha maintained a close relationship with Francine and Clive both, and did her best to be nice to Annalise. Martha excelled in her studies at the university, and before she knew it, she was in her final year doing her clinicals at Royal Hope Hospital. The day of her brother's birthday was when Martha's life changed. That was the day she met the Doctor. And went to the moon. But mostly, it was the day she met the Doctor. Between the two of them, they caught a Plasmavore and saved the hospital. Oh, and Martha saved the Doctor's life, too. Bit of an important thing as it led him to offering her one free trip in his TARDIS. One free trip to Elizabethan England, where she met Shakespeare and stopped a trio of Carrionites from releasing their sisters into the world. One free trip that turned into a trip to New New New etc York where they freed the people on the Motorway and witnessed the death of the Face of Boe. One free trip that led to Manhattan in the 1930s where they stopped the Daleks from their mad plan to turn humans into Daleks. And then the Doctor took Martha home. After showing her all that, he took her home and expected her to be content with just that. Luckily Tish's boss happened to say he was going to "change what it means to be human" on television, piquing the Doctor's curiosity. So after stopping Lazarus' experiment gone wrong, the Doctor offered Martha another trip. She put her foot down though, stating she wouldn't go with him as a passenger being given a treat. And so the Doctor agreed, and told her that she was "never really just a passenger." And so Martha became the Doctor's next Companion. Through time and space they travelled, visiting one world after another, helping people when they could, or simply having a good time. But then the TARDIS needed to refuel. And what should have been a routine refuelling turned into a trip to the very end of the universe, courtesy of the TARDIS trying to get away from Jack, where the last of humankind were setting out to find a Utopia. What should have been their greatest triumph was their greatest failure as Martha accidentally revealed to Professor Yana that he was actually a Time Lord, and not just any Time Lord as it turned out, but the Master. As the Master then stole the TARDIS, the Doctor was forced to fix Jack's Vortex Manipulator, and they return to the present day to try to find the Master. Instead, they realized the Master has been under their noses the entire time, as Harold Saxon, the new Prime Minister of Britain. What followed was quite literally a year of hell. With her family, the Doctor, and Jack held captive by the Master, Martha walked the earth alone, carrying out the Doctor's plan. And in the end, they won. They beat the Master. But he had one last blow to give, choosing the die instead of regenerating, leaving the Doctor as the last of the Time Lords once again. But as time rewound itself for everyone else, those at the epicentre were left with the memories of the year that never happened. Seeing the pain her family was going through, Martha made the decision to part ways with the Doctor. She needed to take care of her parents and sister. She also couldn't bear to remain with a man she loved but who was unable to reciprocate her feelings. So leaving her cell phone with the Doctor, Martha got out. After the Doctor left, Martha went back to finish her medical studies. It wasn't long before she received an interesting offer though. UNIT emailed her and offered her a job, saying she was exactly what they needed and that she came recommended from an 'impeccable source.' With a little push from UNIT on the paperwork, Martha was soon a qualified Doctor of Medicine and a UNIT medical officer. Other changes were going on in Martha's life. Though he didn't remember her from the 'year that never was', Martha remembered Dr. Thomas Milligan and arranged to get to know him properly, without the stress of the end of the world hanging over their heads. By the time Jack asked Martha for a bit of help with some odd deaths in Cardiff, her and Tom were dating. Not long after she returned to London, Tom proposed to her, and then he went to Africa to do some aid work.
